State of the Shark, 7/8/21
Hey, PCHM Sharks!
We hope you enjoyed the pancakes this morning. We were kind of worrying about how the weather might affect our plans, but the breakfast turned out great. Thank you to Mary Beth Williams for being our organizer and chef!
Also, thank you to Piedmont Park Fire Department for coming out and making yesterday evening’s shaving cream fight extra fun and exciting!
Don’t forget that TONIGHT is out Pasta Pump-Up. It’s from 6-8 pm at St. James Episcopal, 301 Piney Mountain Road in Greenville. We will be having spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, and tea from Pebble Creek Pizza, who gave us a great deal on the food. We will enjoy it at NO COST because Plumbing in Pink made a donation to cover the dinner! We will have tip jars there for you to show your appreciation to our four coaches.
The team banquet will be Sunday from 6-8 pm at Half Mile Lake Pool. We’re getting the chicken from Harvey’s Family Restaurant, one of our sponsors. Bring your own drinks and chairs. Also, bring these food items according to your family's last name: A-F: fruit, G-M: pasta, N-S: vegetable tray, T-Z: dessert. This event will include the passing out of team trophies, most improved, most dedicated, and most spirited awards. We will also find out who makes Championships and Classics. The Half Mile Lake pool is available for all to swim in, weather permitting of course.
Return your PCHM Sharks yard sign at the banquet. If you can’t make it to the banquet, bring it to the Pasta Pump-Up or Divisionals.
Iron Sharks t-shirts should be ready July 28. The end-of-the-year team gift will be ready next week. More info will follow about these items!
Below are some additional details about Divisionals.
SWIMMER DROP-OFF
For warm-ups and during the meet, Swimmers may be dropped off in the front of the pool. Please review Divisional Map (attached) and follow the swimmer drop-off signs. Parking Marshalls will be available to help direct the traffic flow. The first entrance to the pool will be EXIT ONLY.
PARKING
All cars are to be parked at Heritage Bible Church, located at Old Spartanburg Rd. and Hudson Rd. There will be NO PARKING on neighborhood streets. Limited parking permits will be issued to Officials, SAIL Reps, and Coaches for the pool parking lot. Only parking passes for the pool parking lot.
Parking update for Saturday morning: Heritage Bible Church is kind enough to let Silverleaf use their parking lot during Divisionals. However, this Saturday, they will be having a funeral at the church around noon. They have asked us toto PLEASE not park in any of the areas right around the building where the funeral guests need to park. There will be a lot of elderly guests who need to park as close as possible to the church. They will have a few funeral parking signs set up, but below is an aerial view of their parking lot. Please do not park in any areas with a red X. Only park in the blue circled area.
TENT AREA
Our tents will be set up in the field across from the church. (See attached map.) They are hoping to have a fence panel out to enter the field directly after crossing the street from the church parking, but if that does not occur walk up the side of the fenced area to the left and enter there. Make sure your swimmer has shoes and knows to wear them in the swimmers’ area while waiting for events. It may have spurs that will hurt bare feet.
CONCESSIONS
Attached are the concessions prices for Divisionals. CASH ONLY.
RAINOUT CONTINGENCY PLAN
In the event of a rainout on Friday evening, 11 and up warm-ups will begin no earlier than 2:30 pm on Saturday with the same order of events as Friday evening. If it rains on Saturday, SAIL Reps, The Meet Director, and Referee will meet to determine a new schedule.
SEVERE WEATHER PLAN
In the event of severe weather, all spectators should return to their cars. We will be in touch with the National Weather Service to monitor potential bad weather in the area. It is the lifeguard and the Meet Director’s responsibility to stop the meet. The Meet Director, lifeguard, Meet Referee and SAIL Reps from each team will make the decision of when the meet shall resume.
RESULTS
Results will be posted on the fence outside the Pavilion area.
That's it for now. See you tonight!
Fins Up,
The PCHM Swim Team Board
