🦈 Important Deadlines, Divisionals & Upcoming Events
Hi, Sharks!
With Thursday's meet behind us, we've officially reached the halfway point of the season! The second half always seems to fly by, and our calendar is about to get even busier. Below is some information to help you stay up to date on all the important dates, deadlines, and events coming your way.
Declare Your Swimmer for This Week's Meet
If you haven't declared your swimmer for Thursday's meet against McCarter yet, please do it now! All declarations are due by noon tomorrow (Sunday).
If your swimmer cannot attend, selecting "Not Attending This Meet" is extremely helpful. It allows our coaches and volunteers to plan accurately and saves you from receiving additional meet-related reminders and communications.
If you do not declare by the deadline, we cannot guarantee your swimmer a spot in the meet or consideration for relay teams. Coaches begin building relays on Sunday afternoon, and we must finalize our lineup based on the deadlines set by the home team. Since we were the home team last week, we were able to leave declarations open longer than usual, but that will not always be possible.
Divisionals
Each SAIL division holds a championship meet called "Divisionals" in which all teams compete for both the Metcalf Cup for the highest total points and the Founder's Cup for the highest quality points (team points divided by number of swimmers).
Divisionals is the culmination and focus of the summer season. The results determine division placements for the following year, making every swimmer's participation important to the team's success.
This year, our Blue Division meet will be held at Holly Tree Country Club:
- 11 & Up Swimmers: Friday, June 26
- 10 & Under Swimmers: Saturday, June 27
To be eligible, swimmers must have participated in at least two regular-season meets.
Need Help Choosing Events?
Here's how to check your swimmer's rankings:
- Visit the Individual Results page for SAIL in the Greenville Journal.
- Scroll down and click the table's header row.
- Be patient! The page will briefly go blank before a search bar appears.
- Enter your swimmer's name to view their rankings.
- Select up to three events in which they have their highest rankings.
Choosing events based on rankings gives your swimmer the best chance to qualify for Championships or Classics and helps maximize our team's scoring opportunities.
Most importantly, only choose events your swimmer can legally complete without being disqualified. Divisionals is not the time to experiment with new strokes!
Deadline to declare for Divisionals: Friday, June 19 at 11:59 p.m.
Championships & Classics
Results from all Divisional Meets across SAIL are combined to identify the fastest swimmers in each age group and event. Classics is the competition for the top 16 swimmers, and Championships is for the next fastest 24 swimmers (places 17-40).
These meets will be held at Westside Aquatic Center:
- Championships: Saturday, July 11
- Classics: Sunday, July 12
If your swimmer will compete at Divisionals, please also update their availability for Championships and Classics. You don't have to choose events for them. You simply need to choose "Not Attending This Meet" or "Attending This Meet" based on your family's availability.
*** Divisionals, Championships, and Classics are all on page 2 of our Signup Calendar.
Important: If you indicate that your swimmer is available and they qualify, they are expected to compete. The team is charged for no-shows.
Deadline to update availability: Friday, June 19 at 11:59 p.m.
Divisionals Week
Divisionals Week is the MOST FUN week of the season!
Get ready for spirit days, team activities, and lots of opportunities to celebrate our swimmers. We'll share the full schedule soon, but we can already tell you about one exciting event.

SAIL Night at the Greenville Drive
This Tuesday, June 9, the Greenville Drive is hosting a special SAIL Night.
We will still have practice that evening, but swimmers are welcome to miss practice if they would like to attend the game. If your family attends, be sure to wear your Shark gear for the pre-game parade and text photos of the evening to Debby DeRosa (864-423-2043) for social media.
You can purchase tickets on the Greenville Drive page for this event.
Whew! If you think this email was a lot to read, consider how long it took to write!
Keep an eye on your inbox for another email with important information about our meet against McCarter.
